HER, SHE, ME

in development

A multi-memoir based on the life of the late Barbara Toy, an entertainer, actress and travel writer, who from 1920 to 1970, wrote over 300 candid and straight talking letters home to her mother in Australia.

Carol discovers the letters when she is asked to help clear the attic studio of a fellow artist, following his death. As the hidden evidence of Barbara’s life emerges from the dishevelled studio; Carol cannot bring herself to bin it all, as the widow asks. She eventually seeks help from a young local writer, Sophie.

as they uncover more about Barbara and her incredible life they also discover more about themselves, exchanging their own memories of childhood, fathers and mothers, their marriages and lovers, finding similar events and concerns, experienced by all three women, despite the distance of time and the age gap between them, and a friendship and bond is forged through knowing Barbara, enabling life changing decisions neither of them would have managed without her.
